Frequently Asked Questions - Robot kits

Robot kits

The robot also has to be built by the participants. However a very simple robot with a differential drive, which is the basic model described in the standard kits, is ideal for the a-MAZE-ing and Jousting Challenges.

Phaenovum has LEGO Mindstorms NXT and EV3 robots as well as Makeblock mBot robots. These are reserved for the courses, however. You will need your own robot (kit) to compete in RoboRAVE.

No. You will need your own robot (kit) to compete in RoboRAVE.

Generally speaking, yes they will be. However if you’re preparing to compete in RoboRAVE Germany, we also recommend bringing your own robot. For more information, please refer to the course description or ask the teacher of the course.

Open platform means that any robot (kit) is permitted, regardless of the manufacturer, up to a total retail value of EUR 1,500. This is something we’d like to stress because many robotic competitions are promoted by the manufacturers themselves and limited to their own models. We’re independent!

Contact your school to find out if it has an IT or robotics club or whether there are any teachers who are actively involved in this area. Many schools have already purchased robot kits and the teachers are happy if they’re finally being put to use (again).
